The role of ecotourism is getting more and more important. There are three national parks, landscape parks and natural reserves. The popularity of country holidays with horse riding, fishing and other forms of recreation rises. Moreover, new trails in picturesque but so far unavailable mountain and highland areas are formed through marking up the trails and equipping them in all necessary bridges, rails, steps and other elements securing the safety of the passing.
Bulgaria ranks third in the world as far as the number of natural reserves is concerned. Wild animals such as bears [the largest number in Europe – 700] and wolves [1000] can be spotted here. There are also jackals and wildcats. Adventure seekers, nature lovers and outdoor sports enthusiasts are finding a new vacation destination. “Ecotourism: Naturally Bulgaria” is the slogan for a sustainable tourism program that is promoting Bulgaria as a desirable travel destination and an attractive investment opportunity.
