Nessebar
Area Description
It is located on a rocky peninsula, near all popular seaside resorts as Bourgas and Pomorie. Sunny Beach is just 5 km away – you can take a bus there anytime.
The city was founded over 2.500 years ago by Thracians and was called Messembria. The ruins of fortifications, donjons, towers and arcades date back to the times of ancient Thrace. The today’s Nessebar is a perfect combination of ancient monuments and modern tourist base. The modern part of the city includes modern hotels, guesthouses, restaurants, taverns and sandy beaches with great views over the ancient rocky peninsula.
The hotels here offer a number of attractions: swimming pools, saunas, spas, sports fields, tennis courts and other facilities of the kind.
There are many small Byzantine Orthodox churches and houses characteristic for the Black Sea building engineering. There are webs of small and winding streets, which create an unforgettable climate of the past eras.
The city, despite the large number of historical places and monuments [12 monasteries are on the UNESCO list!], is not a museum in literal sense. Mild climate, sandy beaches, fresh air and cozy restaurants and cafes make Nessebar a special a unique place perfect for spending summer holidays.
