The alpine character and grandeur of the Rila Mountains attract many tourist and mountaineers. You can enjoy the crystal clean air, wonderful sun, murmur of mountain streams and mysticism of the singing of the Bulgarian songsters. The web of mountain routes begins here.
Mountain shelters wait for the tourists – you can rest there and have something tasty and warm to eat. Professional teams of guides organize hikes and mountain climbing for all mountaineers. You can horse or bicycle ride in Borovets. In the evening you can go to original taverns, which serve traditional specialties of local cuisine. The most important trails include Sokolec [about 5 hours], Musala [the highest peak in Bulgaria – 2925 m above the sea level] to the upper station of the Yastrebes lift [about 6 hours], to Malevits [7-8 hours from the Maleits complex].
SKIING CONDITIONS
The snow layer – about 150 days; average temperature: 8.5°C. Borovets has great ski runs and lifts – 15 lifts and 45 km of runs of various levels of difficulty. There are many restaurants, bars, and discos.
The standard of services is just the same as in all renowned European ski resorts; the prices are lower and that particular fact attracts the Western tourists and Poles.
Ski areas are located 1350 m to 2560 m above the sea level. The ski runs are 45 km long [easy: 16 km, medium and difficult: 25 km]. The longest run is 5 km long. The highest located station: 2550 m above the sea level. There are about 15 lifts [French POMA]: 12 ski tows, 1 chairlift, 1 chairlift for 4 persons, and 1 airship car for 6 persons. There are 75 ski jumps – 50 m long.
The ski slopes are lightsome and snowed if necessary. All winter sports fans can enjoy skiing, snowboarding, snow scooter rides; there are ski schools for children and special offers for beginners.
