Bulgarian wine labels – the meanings of signatures
- Reserve, special category of wines that mature in barrique barrels, can be declared as wines of a given geographical area or AOC
- Reserve specjale – the wine has been maturing for at least 2 years
- Selection specjale – – the wine has been maturing for 3 years or more
- Premium – only one variety of wine grapes was used for production
- Premium reserve – best quality wine, from one harvest or variety
- Vin de collection – part of the Reserve Specjale part, though not more than a half
- Baric – the wine was maturing in an oak barrel, 500 l volume
- Premium oak – the wine was fermenting in a new oak barrel thanks to which it has an oak aroma and aftertaste.
- AOC, as in France, the wines have to be made of strictly defined varieties in a strictly defined micro-region, with strictly defined hectare efficiency and defined minimal sugar content in the vines. These wines constitute only 2% of the total production! AOC: Novo Selo, Varna Lositza, Iujen Briag Pavlikeni, Sungulare Suhindol, Oriachovitza Svischtov, Sakar Liaskovetz, Stambolovo Russenski Briag, Assenovgrad Kralevo, Brestnik Khan Krum, Rozova Dolina Novi Pazar, Harsovo.
