There are 4260 caves [including the Devil’s Throat with an underground river]. Bulgaria is number three on a global list of natural reserves. There are over 12530 species of plants and 15000 animal species. The largest European colony of Dalmatian Pelicans lives in the Srebyrna reserve. It is the only place in Europe where black storks build their nests on cliff tops. Cormorants live in the Black Sea lagoons. The longest bird passages: Via Pontica and Via Aristotelis. Thousands of birds fly along the coast in autumn and spring. Wild animals such as bears [the largest number in Europe – 700], and wolves [1000], jackals and wildcats are here. Etymologists will be delighted with many unique species of butterflies.

The popularity of agricultural holidays with horse riding, fishing and other forms of active recreation has risen, as in Poland. Moreover, new tourist routes are built in the so-far inaccessible mountain and highland areas within the national program of building eco-routes. They are equipped with railings, bridges, stairs and other elements guaranteeing safe passage.
