Gourmets and wine connoisseurs will find Bulgaria as a place for discovering great cuisine, wine, culture and history. The Bulgarian wines – strong or mild, young or old, of fresh fruit aroma – have an original an unforgettable taste. The Bulgarian wine making traditions are long and fascinating. They date back to ancient Thrace – the Thracians were the first wine producers in Europe. In the 6th century B.C., the Thracian kings organized wine feasts and discussed battles and planned warfare.

Many local varieties of vines are grown in Bulgaria: Mavrud, Melnik and Gamza. The Bulgarian wine producers are faithful to the tradition with using old techniques of wine making. However, taking the changeable demands of their clients into account, they have introduced modern production processes – the wines are strong and of excellent quality.
